Why Do Bees Make Honey?

I was asked today, "Why do bees make honey?" The quick answer was, "For food." But.. is that really the answer? Or am I just assuming so because it seems like the obvious answer?

There are a million pieces of presumed knowledge all around us. Things we never bother to really think about, but are so simple, we assume we must know the answer.

Apparently...
"Honeybees collect nectar and store it as honey in their hives. Nectar and honey provide the energy for the bees' flight muscles and for heating the hive during the winter period." (from www.honey.com)

Good to know!
